The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is hiring for a non-certified nurse position for the upcoming school year. IMSA is a residential High School for academically talented STEM students from all areas of Illinois. This is a 10-month plus 15-day position with the possibility of additional coverage in the summer. This is an institute of higher education and has benefits through the State of Illinois, including SURS retirement.
POSITION SUMMARY
IMSA is seeking a 10 month plus 15 day Nurse to work as a part of the Student Health Services team. The Nurse will provide general healthcare and consultation for IMSA students and referral of care to appropriate medical services as needed. As a member of the Division of Student Affairs team, this staff member will work collaboratively with campus partners to provide medical and educational programs.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provide illness care, first aid care and basic emergency care to students according to IMSA policies and procedures
- Assure that day-to-day health office operations adhere to the Illinois Administrative Codes and Public Health Policies related to school health policies and communicable diseases
- Determine the impact of contagious illnesses and act to prevent the spread of communicable disease on campus immunization records and sports physicals.
- Act as a liaison for students, parents, physicians, and community agencies as it relates to health and education to enhance health and wellness of the student population.
- Identify and manage students’ health concerns so they are ready to learn.
- Administer and monitor effectiveness of medications given at school.
- Monitor student health screenings
- Assist with preparing written annual reports on services provided
- Participate as a member in Academy committees and professional association activities as assigned
- Work and or/attend Academy-sponsored events, including but not limited to Orientation, Move-in, Convocation, Graduation, Community Days, Carnival, equity and excellence initiatives, etc
- Participate in health related Academy activities as a representative of the Health Office
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues.
- Other duties as assigned
Hours/Shift/Work Schedule: The Student Health Office hours are Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm. The Nurse’s hours will be 7:30am-4:00pm Monday-Friday. Some weekend shifts required for orientation, move-in, carnival, and graduation.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The required skills and experience for this position include, but are not necessarily limited to:
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse License
- Associates degree in Nursing
- CPR/AED certified
- Experience working in schools and with secondary students
- An appreciation and understanding of working with diverse populations
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Bilingual English-Spanish preferred

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
This is a 10 month plus 15 day non-exempt, employment-at-will position. Rate of pay no less than $28/hr. with full benefits package. The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy offers an excellent comprehensive benefits package including health and retirement benefits. The State Universities Retirement System (SURS) is reciprocal with other Illinois public retirement systems such as the Teachers’ Retirement Systems of Illinois (TRS) and the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). There may be the opportunity to work additional hours beyond what is outlined above, should the need arise.
